Your First Facial in State College: What to Expect at a Skin Consultation

At AM Skincare, your first appointment is a 70-minute New Client Skin Consultation + Treatment. We’ll talk about what’s been going on with your skin, look at your current routine, and choose a treatment based on your concerns and what your skin needs that day.
What happens during a skin consultation?
We’ll start by talking through your goals and any concerns, such as breakouts, redness, sensitivity, pigmentation, texture, or signs of aging. We’ll also go over the products you’re using and what you’ve already tried.
Then we’ll take a closer look at your skin and talk through what we’re seeing. Sometimes the answer is a new treatment or product. Sometimes it’s simplifying your routine or giving your skin a chance to recover. We’ll make recommendations that fit your skin—not a trend or a one-size-fits-all facial menu.
Will I get a treatment, too?
Yes. Your first appointment includes a customized treatment. We’ll decide what makes sense after we’ve talked and looked at your skin. If your skin is sensitive or irritated, for example, a gentler approach may be the better place to start. There’s no need to push your skin through an aggressive treatment to feel like you’ve made progress.
What should I bring?
If you can, bring the names of your current skincare products or a few photos of the labels. You don’t need to stop using anything or change your routine before your appointment. Just let us know what you’ve been using and what your skin has been doing.

A good first facial shouldn’t leave you with more confusion—or a long list of things you feel you have to buy. You should leave understanding your skin a little better and knowing what the next step is.
